| Joseph Manning Deputy Garrison Commander |
Mr. Joseph Manning is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. In August of 2010 Mr Manning assumed the position of Deputy Garrison Commander for the United States Army Garrison BENELUX. Previously he was the Deputy Garrison Commander at USAG Japan (2008-2010) and USAG, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania (2005-2008).
Mr Manning enlisted in the Army in 1972 and was commissioned through the officer candidate program (OCS) at Ft. Benning, Georgia in 1975. He retired from military service in 2005.
While on active duty Mr. Manning spent 15 years in overseas assignments to include: Germany, Saudi Arabia and Japan. His last assignment was as the Deputy Commander for the U.S. Army Japan (2002-2005). Other units of assignment include: the 82d Airborne Division, 3d Infantry Division (Germany), 2d Armored Calvary Regiment (Germany), Ist Infantry Division (Ft Riley), 2nd COSCOM (Germany), PERSCOM and the National Security Agency. He served as an instructor at both the Ordnance Center and School and the Command and General Staff College. He has extensive logistics experience at both the command and staff level with key assignments as a support battalion commander and a G-4.
His military education includes the Air Defense Basic course, the Ordnance Advanced course, Airborne School and Command and General Staff College. He is a 1998 graduate of the United States Army War College Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
His military awards include: the Purple Heart, Distinguished Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6-th award), Army commendation Medal (3d award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal and Parachutist Badge.
His civilian education includes a BS in Business Administration from Loyola College, Montreal Canada and an M.A. in Management from Webster University.
He is married to the former Marianne Murawski and has two grown children, Patrick and Claire.
